2017 State of the Coast Guard Address Highlights Criticality of America’s Waterways
On March 16, Admiral Paul Zukunft, the 25th Commandant of the United States Coast Guard, delivered the 2017 annual State of the Coast Guard address at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. Assessing that 2016 had been a “phenomenal year” for the Coast Guard on several fronts, ADM Zukunft discussed the Coast Guard’s crucial role in protecting the national security of the United States, as well as the critical importance of America’s waterways as a major engine of the U.S. economy, and the Coast Guard’s responsibility for facilitating that commerce.
