Maritime TV is pleased to present another program in the Internet TV series known as "Conversations with Cartner", a regular video and blog discussion on maritime industry issues of the day with Shipmaster and Maritime Lawyer, Dr. John A.C. Cartner. In this program, Dr. Cartner begins a 6-part series which will analyze why the global maritime industry often suffers from a negative public image. At the conclusion of the series, Maritime TV will discuss the initiation of an innovative campaign to address this mainstream public relations issue head-on.

Part 1 of 6: Media Ignorance

In this first program in the series, Dr. Cartner introduces the six elements which make up the series, beginning with Media Ignorance.

Part 2 of 6: Invisibility

This is the 2nd installment in a 6-part series in which Dr. Cartner is analyzing why the global maritime industry often suffers from a negative public image. In this program Dr. Cartner addresses the “invisibility” of the maritime industry to the mainstream population. Dr. Cartner says this exists because so much of the economy is dependent upon the international trade that predominantly relies on the maritime sector, which runs so smoothly. He draws an analogy to the power grid which never gets noticed until there is a black-out.

Part 3 of 6: Criminalization of the Seafarer

In this program Dr. Cartner addresses the ‘criminalization of the seafarer’ and how it adversely affects the public image of the maritime industry as a whole.

Part 4 of 6: 19th Century Seafaring Literature

In this program Dr. Cartner addresses 18th and 19th century fictional literature, the general portrayal of the maritime industry in literary classics and how it still adversely affects the public image of the maritime industry to this day.

Part 5 of 6: The Influence of the Navy

In this program Dr. Cartner addresses the influence of the Naval service, how perceptions evolved from the days of the Royal Navy and what is still present in attitudes towards the maritime industry today.
