Following up on Secretary of the Navy Del Toro’s recent outreach to foreign shipping companies like Maersk for investment in constructing commercial sealift vessels in U.S. shipyards to strengthen American Seapower, if a company like Maersk were to have their ships built in the USA, what yards would be qualified to build them? Given the extra cost for such a U.S. endeavor, when compared to shipbuilding in China, can MARAD offer any inducements such as construction differential subsidies?
